Orlando Pet Surgery
Whether it’s a routine spay/neuter procedure or something more complex, many pets will undergo surgery at some point in their lives. Kirkman Animal Hospital is equipped to perform a number of soft tissue surgeries (no bone) as well as advanced orthopedic (involves bone) pet surgeries in Orlando, including:
- Anterior cruciate ligament repair
- Fracture repair
- Medial patellar luxation repair
- Tibial plateau leveling osteotomy (TPLO)
- Tibial tuberosity advancement (TTA)
As with every other service we offer, we make our patients’ safety and comfort one of our top priorities during every procedure we perform. We use advanced equipment, including a pulse oximeter and ECG, to monitor each pet’s vitals (heart rate, respiration, blood pressure, etc.). We also assign a technician to every patient to monitor him/her before, during, and after surgery.
Our anesthesia protocols are customized to every pet. In many cases, we recommend pre-anesthetic blood work to check for any underlying health issues or anesthetic risks. We also perform a thorough physical exam and review his/her medical history to determine if your pet is healthy enough for surgery/anesthesia. While your pet is completely anesthetized, we’ll supply IV fluids and/or pain medications to support circulation and blood pressure. Although anesthesia is not without risks, we make every effort to ensure your pet’s safety with our protocols.
After Your Pet’s Surgery in Orlando
When you come to pick up your pet after surgery, we’ll give you detailed information about how to care for him/her from home. We’ll also provide you with any needed pain medications so your pet can be comfortable during recovery. Your pet will likely be lethargic for the first 18-24 hours, which is normal after anesthesia. We recommend that you keep your pet in an area away from other pets, young children, or stairs during this recovery time.
